Mr. Ricks has been admitted to practice law in California since 1964. He obtained from the University of California, Los Angeles, a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960, and a Juris Doctor degree in 1963. He was a member of the UCLA Law Review.
Since the early 1980's, Mr. Ricks has devoted a substantial portion of his practice to representing current and former employees regarding various employment related matters. Examples include: wrongful termination, breach of contract, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, defamation, Labor Code violations, invasion of privacy, unfair competition, and licensing and personnel hearings. His practice involves litigation and appellate work in both State and Federal courts. He has obtained several verdicts in employment cases in excess of one million dollars.
During the early part of his career, Mr. Ricks was an associate of Hill, Farrer & Burrill in Los Angeles, and often represented employers concerning labor-management issues. After moving to Orange County in the early 1970's, he engaged primarily in general civil litigation, and began to represent employees in employment litigation.
Mr. Ricks has served as a member of the Executive Council of State Bar Conference of Barristers, the Los Angeles Jr. Barristers Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association. He has served as Judge Pro Tem, Arbitrator and Receiver for the Orange County Superior Court, and as a State Bar Disciplinary Referee. He is a member of the Orange County Bar Association, California Employment Lawyers Association and Orange County Specialty Lawyers Guild. He has served as a speaker at various legal education seminars.
Mr. Ricks is recognized in Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, and has an "AV" rating by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, which is its highest rating for legal ability and ethics.
In addition to the State of California, Mr. Ricks is admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Southern and Central Districts, United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
